Bamako Beach doubles his tally The well-supported Bamako Beach (2/1 - 11/8) supplemented his recent maiden win by scoring in the Glenvale Stud Race at Cork over seven furlongs. The Michael O'Callaghan-trained colt finished second on his first two starts before finishing seventh in the Irish 2,000 Guineas. He broke his duck at the fourth attempt when winning a Fairyhouse maiden at prohibitively short odds. The son of Sands Of Mali raced freely in the hands of Seamie Heffernan, behind the eventual second Benevento, and was asked for his effort two furlongs out. He hit the front a furlong out and edged left close home, but he won comfortably by an eased-down two and three-quarter lengths from the aforementioned Benevento (5/2). The pair pulled clear of Felix Guido (66/1) who was a further seven lengths behind. "He's a horse that we've obviously thought a lot of, given where we've run him," said O'Callaghan. "This was a good race, taking on older horses. Someone asked me this morning was he a 'moral' and I said on his rating, if he runs to his mark, he should be hard to beat. "He's a good horse. We have the (Prix de la) Foret in our head for him and there is a Group 3 in a few weeks, called the Prix de Pin, in France. We may go for that or go straight to the Foret. "He's still a big baby. He only had one run as a two-year-old and he finds things very easy. He's a bit over enthusiastic and sometimes they can be a bit slow to learn. "He couldn't have done that any easier, he's won with plenty in hand. "Today is a conditions race but there were no hiding places on paper, taking on older horses. He's gone and done it well with a bit in hand. "He's done everything we could have hoped for and we'll take a shot now." Additional reporting by Gary Carson.
