Tribal Nation looked to have found a good opportunity against just three rivals in the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Race at Killarney but those who invested at odds of 1/3 were burned as the John Murphy-trained Barbizon came out on top.

The hot favourite set the pace in this mile event, but Dylan Browne McMonagle sent out distress signals over a furlong out and was soon headed by Barbizon.

The 12/1 shot, who showed some promise on debut at the Curragh on Irish Derby weekend, picked up well for Shane Foley and had two and a quarter lengths to spare over Rion Rubette

Tribal Nation could find no extra a further three and a half lengths back in third.

Murphy’s son and assistant trainer George said, “We liked him an awful lot before his Curragh run but he was green, fresh and a bit keen that day. He also got caught out on a wing and got tired but still ran a lovely race then.

"He was very impressive today and I'd say he is a very nice horse.

"Shane said he'll come on a lot more and thinks he will end up being a very smart horse. He has a very high cruising speed, has a big engine and he grinds it out as well. He was a maiden in a winners' race and did that very well."
