Bay plans fluid

Mark Johnston is refusing to look too far ahead with Bay Willow following his convincing success at the Curragh on Sunday.

Having finished a promising fourth in the King George V Stakes at Royal Ascot, the Singspiel gelding found the necessary improvement to land the valuable Dubai Tennis Championship European Breeders Fund Handicap in impressive fashion.

A stiff rise in the weights now looks certain to follow but Johnston will wait a while longer before testing his charge at a higher level.

"It was a good performance from him and we had expected him to run a big race at Royal Ascot," said Johnston.

"To be fair to him he did run respectably from an impossible draw and he showed yesterday what we hoped he would do at Royal Ascot.

"I'd imagine he'll get a mark somewhere in the 90s now but his next race will almost certainly be in handicap company.

"We'll see how he gets on there and we can always step him up in class later on."
