Kodi Bear is on course for the Dubai Dewhurst Stakes after pleasing connections in a gallop at Newbury on Friday morning.

Clive Cox's juvenile has not run since landing the Winkfield Stakes at Ascot in July, with the trainer very much keeping one eye on the future with the Kodiac colt.

He completed a six-furlong gallop under jockey Adam Kirby, picking up towards the end to finish in front of his work companion.

"He's a similar type to Xtension (who was beaten just a neck and a nose in the 2009 Dewhurst Stakes) and that's the reason I've campaigned him similarly," said Cox.

"He's exactly where I want him at the moment and we've just come here for a racecourse gallop to give him a day out.

"He was very switched off early which is a very good sign. The fact that he's switching off like that and we are going seven is ideal.

"We've done all we needed to do. This weather is going to break soon and I'm quite relaxed about that, as he's versatile with regards ground."

Kirby, who has ridden Kodi Bear on all three of his starts, was also very pleased with the gallop.

He said: "I was very pleased with him. He did everything that was asked of him. He's fit and he's well and he's improved - you can't ask for more than that. He's enjoyed his day out."
