Bek Misses Dante

Hala Bek will not run in the totesport Dante Stakes at York on Thursday and a Vodafone Derby bid is now on hold.

The son of Halling won his only start to date at Newbury in striking fashion and is as low as 8-1 in some lists for the Epsom Classic.

However, a dirty scope will prevent the colt from taking up his engagement at York and his appearance in the blue riband is now in question.

'Hala Bek does not run in the Dante,' revealed trainer Michael Jarvis.

'He didn't have a perfect scope so we thought it would be prudent not to run.

'The Derby is on hold at the moment.

'He couldn't run before the Derby now because it would be too close.'

Jarvis did reveal though that he would have no qualms about sending the three-year-old to Epsom on the back of just one racecourse appearance.

'Shaamit won the Derby on the back of only one run so it can be done, we'll just have to wait and see.'
