Benevento Makes All for O'Connor The Robson Aguiar-trained Benevento (8/1)was an all-the-way winner of the 1Xbet.ie Community Champions Race. It was an evening where nearly all the winners were prominent throughout, and jockey Donagh O'Connor got his mount into a nice position early. When urged to kick on around the bend, he duly obliged, and although the Johnny Murtagh-trained Rahmi finished with a flurry, they were no match for Benevento, who recorded his third victory. Speaking after the race, jockey Donagh O'Connor said: "We went along for the first couple of furlongs and then up the hill I was able to get a sit into him and let him freewheel down the hill. He took a blow here the last day but then he got a second wind and I thought he was starting to stay on again towards the finish. I knew he'd get the mile well and even going down to the start he felt a lot sharper than the last day. I think there's a bit more to come from him. He lost his way a bit in England but he did that well there tonight. He was only doing enough inside the furlong pole. I felt if something had got to his girths he'd have went on again. Hopefully this will be the start of building him back up through the grades."
