Berry looking forward to next year with Pathfork Fran Berry believes Pathfork has the makings of a classy three-year-old judged on his performance in the Irish National Stakes at the Curragh. The Jessica Harrington-trained youngster had to dig deep on the rain-softened ground to ward off Casamento to maintain his 100% record. "It was pure guts and class got him home. He was treading water in the last 100 yards," said the jockey. "I was very worried all week when the rain came - the ground was very soft. "He won despite the ground even though he looked to be travelling well he was never totally comfortable. It was more a relief that he got through it. "He prefers much better ground. When he won the Futurity Stakes he showed an impressive turn of foot at the furlong pole on good to firm ground. "A mile won't be a problem - he's very relaxed. I don't know how far he'll stay after that, time will tell. "He's not only a two-year-old - he's a big, scopey horse and he's physically still weak. "If he goes the right way over the winter and fills his frame, a mile will be the ideal trip to start him off next year. "He's going to be a lovely three-year-old," Berry told At The Races.
