Big loss for Hobbs yard with Fair Along death Philip Hobbs' stable stalwart Fair Along has sadly passed away after suffering a bout of colic. The 11-year-old started off his career with Hobbs as a juvenile hurdler, filling the runner-up spot behind stable companion Detroit City in the 2006 Triumph Hurdle at Cheltenham. He has plied his trade admirably over hurdles, fences and on the Flat in the seven years since, competing at the Cheltenham Festival a remarkable eight years in succession. All in all Fair Along won 16 of his 67 races, was placed on a further 17 occasions and acquired over £430,000 in win and place prize-money. He ran his final race in last month's Pertemps Final, finishing 14th of the 24 runners under Richard Johnson. Confirming the sad news, Hobbs said on his Twitter account: "Fair Along did not survive colic over the weekend. "Commiserations to the Petersons (owners). The whole yard is desperately upset. He was such a star."
