Blackjack proves lucky again

Blackjack Hills was in front when they appeared in the closing stages of the first division of the ten furlong handicap at Dundalk.

The Matthew Smith-trained gelding had bounced back to winning ways in first time blinkers at Gowran last time and the headgear appeared to do the job again today.

Ben Coen ’s mount was just ahead of Thompson Gunner as they emerged from the fog inside the final furlong and the 9/2 shot recorded a three-parts-of-a-length success.

said: "I said to Matthew, for a big horse he moved beautifully on that surface.

"He jumped a little bit better with me today than he did the last day and I was able to sit a couple of positions closer.

"Step up in trip suited.

"He's a nice horse and hopefully Matthew will knock a bit of fun out of him for the winter. 

"It opens up a few options for him."
