Last year's Galway Plate hero Bob Lingo tunes up for the defence of his crown with a spin on the Flat at Killarney tomorrow evening.

The 11-year-old endured a disappointing winter campaign following his Ballybrit success last summer, but trainer Tom Mullins is hopeful his charge can bounce back now he encounters a sounder surface.

He heads to Killarney for the Sika Signs Maiden over a mile and three-quarters, a race in which he finished second 12 months ago before going on to Plate glory.

Mullins said: "Galway is the plan and hopefully this run will just sharpen him up for that.

"He's in good form and has had a nice break since his last run over fences. The ground is better for him now and we're hoping for a good run. He'll go straight to Galway after this for the Plate. He deserves the chance to defend his title."

Bob Lingo faces six rivals tomorrow, including Dermot Weld's consistent performer Train Of Thought.
