Bolger Ace Going Straight For Guineas

Jim Bolger intends to saddle his unbeaten New Approach in the Stan James 2,000 Guineas without the benefit of a prep run.

Last year's Dewhurst winner was yesterday handed the official title of top European two-year-old following the unveiling of the World Thoroughbred Rankings at a ceremony in London.

And Bolger has expressed his delight at the progress his Galileo colt is making over the winter.

Bolger said: 'He's done very well physically, as I expected he would.

'He was a little light and unfurnished last season, but he's got more round and I think he should continue to develop further through the early spring.

'He's in light daily exercise and we'll start stepping things up with him at the end of this month,' he told the Racing Post.

'The plan is to send him straight for the Guineas, and I see no reason why he shouldn't get the Derby trip.'
