‘You have to roll the dice — Joseph O’Brien, James J Braddock Joseph O’Brien has indicated ‘it is most likely’ that James J Braddock will take his chance in the Betfred Derby at Epsom on Saturday week, June 6. The son of Zarak staked his claim for racing’s blue riband when getting up close home to beat the odds-on Pierre Bonard in the Cashel Palace Hotel Derby Trial Stakes at Leopardstown earlier this month. “We have other options than Epsom, but it is most likely he will go there now,” said O’Brien. “When you win a Trial and are going to be in the top four in the betting, you have to roll the dice. He is an exciting colt." James J Braddock won a Curragh maiden in impressive fashion on heavy ground last November but showed that he is effective on a sounder surface at Leopardstown.
