It has emerged that leading trainer Jim Bolger will now not attend the hearings that have been called by the Oireachtas Agriculture Committee as a result of his concerns over illegal drug use in racing, having reportedly informed the group that he is not in a position to do so following legal advice.

Bolger had been invited to appear in front of the parliamentary group, along with a number of other key racing bodies, to address claims that he made in recent newspaper interviews.

The hearings get under way next week, with representatives of HRI and the IHRB due to appear first, followed a few days later by representatives from the Irish Racehorse Trainers Association (IRTA) along with those from the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine.
