Bolger's Intense Focus wins Dewhurst Intense Focus gave trainer Jim Bolger a hat-trick of consecutive wins in the Group 1 Dewhurst Stakes at Newmarket today, when edging Lord Shanakill and Finjaan in an amazing finish to the premiere two-year-old race of the season. The son of Giants Causeway, ridden by Kevin Manning who had partnered Bolger's two previous winners of the race - Teofilio and New Approach, powered between his rivals to triumph by the tightest of margins. He was afterwards as short as 12-1 for the Classic. Bolger said: "He's a hardy horse. He was 4 kilos heavier today than in Paris and we just kept him ticking over." While Manning added: "It was very close. I wasn't 100% sure. We pulled up and I asked Jimand Richard and we didn't know. "He travelled well and got there and kept going. He's kept progressing and like this quick ground." Aidan O'Brien's Rip Van Winkle never threatened the leaders, finishing sixth, and is now as big as 8-1 for the 2009 English 2,000 Guineas.
