Brake Handed Weighty Burden

Cheltenham Gold Cup fifth Cane Brake has been allotted top-weight of 12st for the Powers Whiskey Irish Grand National at Fairyhouse on Easter Monday.

Tom Taaffe's charge had previously won the Troytown Chase and Paddy Power Chase before running a fine race behind the brilliant Kauto Star.

Next in the list is William Hill Chase runner-up Juveigneur on 11st 8lb, who heads a strong British presence that also includes Reveillez (11st), Hoo La Baloo (10st 13lb), Wild Cane Ridge (10st 10lb) and Aces Four and New Alco (both 10st 9lb) from Ferdy Murphy's yard.

Murphy also has Joes Edge (10st 6lb), Hot Weld (9st 7lb) and Kitski (9st 5lb) engaged.

Point Barrow, an encouraging third over hurdles at the weekend, is on 10st 11lb but is thought more likely to be heading straight to Aintree.

Royal & SunAlliance Chase runner-up Snowy Morning appears leniently treated on 10st 12lb, while other novices entered include Patsy Hall (10st 6lb), King Johns Castle (10st 4lb) and Character Building (10st 3lb).

Leading hunter chaser Whyso Mayo is due to carry 10st 4lb, with Donald McCain's Cheltenham Festival winner Cloudy Lane slightly out of the handicap on 9st 12lb.
