Following an enquiry heard by the independent disciplinary panel of the British Horeseracing Authority this morning former racehorse trainer Brendan Powell has been found in breach of Rule (A)30 and fined £2,500.

Powell now employed as assistant trainer to Joesph O'Brien in Ireland was found to be in breach of Rule (A)30 by engaging in conduct considered to be prejudicial to the integrity, proper conduct or good reputation of horseracing in Great Britain due to:

i) Failing to notify the owner of a horse under his care and control that the horse was injured and required surgery;

ii) Allowing surgery to be carried out on a horse under his care and control without the owner's

knowledge or consent;

iii) Failing to inform the owner that a horse had undergone surgery and misleading him about the

condition of the horse;

iv) Making entries for a horse despite knowing that the horse would be unfit to race.

Due to Covid 19 the fine is deferred for six month.

The panel has also deemed that Powell is ineligible to apply for a trainer's licence in Britain for a period of 12 months.
