BRITISH TAX CUTS POSSIBLE

British government officials are said to be seriously considering a reduction in the level of betting tax in a bid to boost the betting industry.

Discussions over reform of the betting tax system are currently taking place and there has been much recent speculation in that deductions from punters will be replaced by a tax on bookmakers` turnover.

Speaking to 125 delegates at today`s annual British Betting Offices Association seminar at London`s Claridges Hotel, Stephen Timms, financial secretary to the Treasury, announced that the cut in tax was being considered as a way of encouraging medium-term betting growth in a bid to make the betting industry stronger.
