British trainers target Listed races in Naas

Summer action on and off the track continues at Naas Racecourse on Wednesday evening with two Listed races on the eight-race card before racegoers enjoy live music with After Dark.

Both feature races on the card have attracted overseas interest with the David Evans-trained Radio Goo Goo bidding to become the first British-trained winner of the Yeonmanstown Stud Irish EBF Stakes since Minalisa won for Rae Guest in 2014.

Johnny Murtagh is double handed in the €50,000 contest. He won the race on the Mick Channon-trained Miss Lahar back in 2013 as a rider and is hoping to claim the race as a trainer with Lady Onyx and Clounmacon representing the Curragh-based trainer.

Murtagh’s stable jockey Ben Coen will ride Lady Onyx and Shane Foley is booked for Clounmacon.

Murtagh said: “Both horses have been trained for the Yeomanstown Stud Irish EBF Stakes. Lady Onyx ran well in Carlisle the last day and at Musselburgh before that in two Listed races and we are hoping that she can win one.

“We are hoping both horses will handle the ground. It was soft when Lady Onyx won at Gowran Park and Clounmacon has been running over further, so a testing six furlongs might suit. She has a bit to find on ratings, but we are looking forward to running both fillies.”

Lady Onyx is top rated of the 11 runners alongside the Ado McGuinness-trained course and distance winner Hodd’s Girl.

Fozzy Stack will also have two runners in the €50,000 race with My Eyes Adore You and Aussie Girl.

Ger Lyons, who won the race last year with Pirate Jenny seeks back-to-back renewals, this time Sweetest Rose is his representative.

A field of eight will go to post for the Arqana Irish EBF Marwell Stakes with the William Haggas-trained Indispensable adding plenty of intrigue.

Aidan O’Brien has two declared runners with the Dundalk maiden winner Brighter joined by debutant Cherry Blossom. Course and distance winner Storm Miami made a good impression when winning on debut for Ger Lyons and Colin Keane, and looks to enhance her reputation here in the colours of owner Mark Dobbin.

Vanity Pays, second at Naas last time out, will bid to go one better for trainer Paddy Twomey while Ado McGuinness has booked Ben Coen for Cork maiden winner Tiger Belle.
