Brittain Looking To Goodwood

Clive Brittain is hoping both Rajeem and Excusez Moi will be ready to run at this week's Glorious Goodwood meeting after both missed intended engagements.

Rajeem, shock 50-1 winner of the Falmouth Stakes, was due to contest the Group One Prix d'Astarte at Deauville, while Excusez Moi was declared for Ascot's Hong Kong Jockey Club Sprint Stakes.

However, a heel infection has ruled out the former while Brittain was not totally satisfied with Excusez Moi.

He explained: 'He pulled a shoe off at Newmarket the week before and didn't run so we put a poultice on and then put the shoe back on.

'He wasn't sound enough to send on the box to Ascot though ? he is 99% sound but he just took the odd questionable step and it's not fair to run if there's any doubt at all.'

Excusez Moi had been due to tackle the Ascot race before running in the Vodafone Stewards' Cup next Saturday.

The four-year-old is as low as 16-1 with William Hill for the Goodwood sprint and Brittain is still hoping to make the line-up.

'I would expect him to be declared for Goodwood, as long as we're happy with him,' he added.

Goodwood is also now on the agenda for Rajeem with Brittain eyeing the Vodafone Nassau Stakes, also next Saturday, for his Group One winner.

'Rajeem is 100% better this morning and we hope she will be clear within the next 48 hours. Hopefully she will run in the Nassau next Saturday,' he said.

'Her joint was double the size yesterday morning and we couldn't send her to France but it seems to have subsided now.

'It was a shame as it was a good race for her and she had worked extremely well on the Friday.'
