Bromhead set to test Bear

Henry de Bromhead is to step Byerley Bear up in class following his debut win over hurdles at Cork.

The six-year-old is owned by Herb Stanley, who enjoyed great success in the 1990s with the likes of Merry Gale and Derrymoyle.

His trainer has earmarked either the Grade Two Moscow Flyer Novice Hurdle or the Grade One Deloitte Novice Hurdle for his next run.

"He's a lovely horse. He'll run in a novice next, probably a Grade Two at Punchestown on January 30th," said De Bromhead.

"He'll also be entered for the Deloitte at Leopardstown in February. He'll run in one or the other hopefully.

"He's developing nicely, he only came to us in the summer.

"He won his bumper well and I thought that looked quite a decent maiden hurdle the other day. He'd had one run before he joined us.

"It's nice to have a good horse for Herb Stanley as he's been such a big supporter of Irish racing."
