Brownstown shows plenty to score for Cromwell Barrier-trial-winner Brownstown graduated to the track with a victory in the juvenile fillies' maiden at Leopardstown. The 3/1 shot tracked clear leader She's Too Kool who ran off the track with a suspected slipped saddle with less than three furlongs to race. Seamie Heffernan soon pulled this one up. Gary Carroll asked Brownstown to open up into the straight and she began to move away from the field a furlong and a-half out. She had the race won in the final 150 yards and Carroll didn't have to get serious with her in the closing stages despite runner-up Flawless Fusion (28/1) keeping on to get within half a length of her at the line. Elly Bay rounded out the placings in third at 25/1. Brownstown won a barrier trial in Naas last month for Gavin Cromwell. Carroll said: “She’s a filly we like a lot. She’s a big, long-striding filly who travels well and has a gear. “She picked up to win well and has got tired inside the furlong pole. She had a good blow, and the ground is probably as slow as she wants it. She has a bit of class. “She won a barrier trial well and stepped forward. She’s a very straightforward filly and, I think as the year goes on, she’ll keep improving.” Additional reporting by Alan Magee
