After a winner at Fairyhouse last evening Willie McCreery kept up the momentum for the month of June as his Bellacanta bagged the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Median Auction Fillies Maiden at Navan in the hands of Nathan Crosse.

Owned and bred by the Burns family, easy-to-back 14/1 chance Bellacanta was soon bossing things from the front, and eventually battled off market leaders Treasure Rose and Edge Of Seventeen by three parts of a length and a short head.

The successful Gregorian filly had enough energy left to jump a rail and unseat Crosse soon after the line.

McCreery had closed out May strongly as well, and after this win he commented: "She just followed the rail from where she came from (unseated Crosse after the line), but everything seems okay.

"You'd like the way she fought back and went on again.

"Her dam won over further. Just not one of Maurice Burns' to go more than five furlongs, he's used to all these Bungle Inthejungle's! I'm delighted he has a stayer and she will make into a nice stayer.

"Lovely first run and a nice second run, but Nathan just thought she didn't like to go up into the horses so we said today we would jump and try and make it. She's a shy filly and that's the way she is.

"I'll try and map out a plan now and I'm sure Maurice has a different one!"

N.M. Crosse, rider of Bellacanta, trained by W. McCreery, reported to the Clerk of the Scales that his mount ducked right and he lost his balance after crossing the line.

J.J.G. Ryan, rider of Marzanda trained by T.G.McCourt, reported to the Clerk of the Scales that his mount was short of room up the straight. Having viewed the recording of the race and considered the matter, the Raceday Stewards were satisfied that no further action was warranted.
