Butler Plans Nayyir Celebration

Nayyir looks set for a return trip to Goodwood for the totesport Celebration Mile on August 27 following his creditable effort to finish fourth behind Proclamation in the Sussex Stakes.

The seven-year-old´s trainer Gerard Butler believes he would have finished closer had he not been hampered by the winner just over a furlong out in the Group One contest last week.

Nayyir was beaten a total of just over three lengths and Butler said: 'We could have done without that interference, but these things happen.

'With a clear run we would have been a lot closer to the winner and (runner-up) Soviet Song. Obviously both those horses are a little bit special but I was happy with the way Nayyir ran.'

Looking ahead to what could prove a final season for his charge, the Blewbury trainer added: 'The Celebration Mile is an obvious race to gear him at. 'I am pleased with the way he has taken his Goodwood race and everyone knows he likes the course.

'However, his main objective is the Breeder´s Cup Mile in New York which is very much on the cards.

'On paper it looks an amazingly hot contest but it will be interesting to see who actually turns up on the day.'

Butler withdrew Tarfah from her intended engagement at Goodwood last week owing to the ground. He has a high-profile objective for that filly and added that he would take her to Arlington for the Grade One Beverley D Stakes on August 13.
