Runner-up on his previous start at the Curragh, Aidan O'Brien's Cape Cod (5/6 fav) went one better when making all in the opening Irish EBF Maiden (Smullen Series) at Naas.

The Coolmore-owned son of Wootton Bassett was in command from early in the straight under Jack Cleary and kept on well to post a comfortable three-parts of a length success over promising newcomer Handani

Cleary said: “We kept it straightforward and he travelled great throughout the race. He picked up well and there was still plenty in the tank.

“He was flicking his ears coming into the last furlong and should stay a mile and a quarter next year.

“He’s stepping forward with every run and is going to be a nice horse for the future.”
