Captain beaten on return

Dubai World Cup winner Captain Steve was beaten on his return to action in America last night.

Sent off 4-5 favourite for the Steven Foster at Churchill Downs, he was caught in the final half-furlong by Guiding Tour who record a half-length win.

Ex-Irish horse Brahms was third in the Grade Two event.

Captain Steve`s trainer Bob Baffert blamed a hasty preparation for the defeat of Jerry Bailey`s mount.

'I told Jerry that he was going to be a little short because I sort of rushed him into it,' he said.

Bailey added: 'Leaving the eighth pole I thought I had an excellent chance to win but the other horse just ran me down. But he ran well. You can`t win `em all.'
