Captain Clonmel bound

Glenfinn Captain will bid to repeat last year's victory in the Clonmel Oil Chase on Thursday, should the meeting in County Tipperary get the go-ahead.

The going was heavy when the Tom Taaffe-trained gelding took the two-and-a-half-mile Grade Two feature 12 months ago.

Conditions are again certain to be testing, with the fixture subject to a precautionary inspection on Wednesday afternoon.

The 10-year-old had a prep run at Thurles last month on his first start since March.

"He had a nice run over hurdles three weeks ago and he's come out of the race good," said Frank Berry, racing manager to owner JP McManus.

"He's in good old form, Tom's happy with him so we're hoping he runs a nice race."
