Having landed his maiden hurdle over course and distance last August, the Henry De Bromhead-trained Captain Ryan Matt again showed his liking for the track when easily taking the Jimmy Shanahan Memorial Handicap Hurdle at Tramore.

Sent off 13/8jf under Darragh O'Keeffe, the Derek Coles-owned six-year-old chased fellow market principal Kentucky Beach before going on approaching four out.

Briefly joined by Jupiter Du Gite after the next, Captain Ryan Matt went clear between the final two flights to score by 13 lengths from Beautiful Chaos

Henry de Bromhead said: "That's a nice way to start the year. I'm delighted and he was brilliant there. I'm delighted for Derek and his family.

"He obviously likes it around here. He jumped really well, way better than he has done.

"We sort of pinpointed this race, we wanted to have a go at it and fair play to the Shanahan family for sponsoring it."
