Gary Carroll made a successful return to the saddle after fracturing his fibia in November as Flanker Jet got off the mark at the sixth attempt in division two of the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Maiden at Dundalk.

The Robson De Aguiar-trained gelding was prominent throughout and the 5/2 chance kept on gamely under a strong drive to hold off 11/8 favourite Astronomically by half a length. Son Of Beauty was just a neck further back in third.

Robson De Aguiar said: "He finished the race well. He has been working very well at home.

"Last time, he was a little bit quiet and today he has come in form.

"I'd say a mile will be no problem for him. He has a big stride and is a very sound horse. As the year goes on, I think he is going to improve again.

"Something like that (a nice handicap on the turf over seven furlongs or a mile)."
