Carroll's the real deal with Pocket Jacks at Dundalk Gary Carroll notched up his second treble of the season when winning the opening division of the Christmas Party Nights At Dundalk Handicap on Andy Oliver’s Pocket Jacks this afternoon. Earlier successful on Ger Lyons’ Sonoran and Sheila Lavery’s Leveraging, Carroll made it three on the day as the 6/1 chance scored in the colours of the Shambles Spies Syndicate. Brought wide into the straight, Pocket Jacks ran out a length and a half winner from Tom McCourt’s 11/4 favourite Jazzit with 18/1 chance Pallatine Hills back in third place. Andy Oliver said, “Very happy. She was declared for a race just after being second at Gowran Park, and she actually had an accident and tripped. She had a minor injury, but it took a long time, so she was off with that. “We kind of had to rush her back. She was hardly more than ready to start last week and ran well (sixth, Gowran Park). This was an obvious opportunity. “We have her declared tomorrow (in Punchestown). We weren't going to go for the race in Galway because of the heavy ground, but we would have gone tomorrow if things hadn't worked out. I think it is probably unfair, she has done her bit now. “Gary gave her a lovely ride, handled, the surface, very straightforward, and looks like she will get further. She seemed to hit the line strong. “I'm delighted for the lads; they have waited a long time - end of her three-year-old career she is winning. We'll hope to find another opportunity.” Carroll also rode three winners on the same day at Navan in May. Additional reporting from Michael Graham
