Cashel Queen (4/1) made use of advantageous race-conditions to win Roscommon’s Irish Stallion Farms EBF Maiden today, scoring for trainer Donnacha O’Brien, jockey Paddy Harnett and owner Barry Fowler.

Confined to juveniles rated 75 or less, with fillies receiving a 5lb allowance, top-rated Cashel Queen raced behind the leaders and, under 5lb claimer Harnett, battled well to score by a neck from Luca Brillante .

Harnett said “she has been working quite well since she came into us and hasn’t missed a beat since she came in as a yearling. Probably on her first couple of runs she was a bit green and things just didn’t happen and she was a little slow at the gates in Down Royal the last day.

“Today she was on the ball and while she was in the gates plenty long enough, when they opened she popped out smartly and I was able to put her where I wanted, just behind the pace.

“What I really liked about her was when she got headed, by the Moyglare horse (runner-up Luca Brilliante), she battled back and put it to bed fairly quick. Going forward I’m sure she could go further. She’s got a willing attitude and that helps.”
