CATTERICK CALLED OFF

Catterick today lost its latest battle with the weather.

The track, which staged the only meeting in the UK last Saturday after frost wiped out racing elsewhere, is waterlogged and its fixture was called off following an early-morning inspection.

Course spokesman John Gundill said: 'The meeting has been abandoned.

'There was not a lot of rain overnight and the course was drying up yesterday but not enough - we did have some rain overnight and it prolonged the drying-up process enough to make the course unfit.'

Ironically, today`s meeting was a hastily-arranged replacement card designed to make up for recent abandonments.

Catterick has now lost five day`s racing this jumps season, including both days of its New Year meeting.
