Chabal scores for Godolphin Chabal, trained last year by Jim Bolger to finish second in the National Stakes, claimed the bet365 Classic Trial at Sandown today on his first start for Godolphin. It was the first winner of the season on British soil for the Dubai operation. The colt was purchased out of Bolger's yard after he finished runner-up in the Group One National Stakes on his second start. Connections were a little worried about his tendency to be very keen. Frankie Dettori buried him in the pack until the turn for home and the 7-4 favourite eventually pulled two and a quarter lengths ahead of Azmeel. Godolphin racing manager Simon Crisford said: "It was important to get lots of cover today as he was still very fresh. "He will probably go for the Dante now but it all depends on how the horse is, otherwise he will go straight to Epsom."
