Channon Mulls Desert Plans

Mick Channon is likely to keep Majestic Desert running over seven furlongs following her tidy success in the Oak Tree Stakes at Glorious Goodwood last week.

The filly had become a shade disappointing and had not won a race since last year´s Fred Darling Stakes but returned to her best form in the Group Three contest, sweeping past the field inside the final furlong to win going away.

Channon said: 'There is the Prix de la Foret later in the year and I imagine we will look at other races over seven furlongs for her.

'The race she won was the plan and I am delighted to get her back.'

Another of Channon´s leading lights, the industrious Rocamadour is not likely to be seen for a little while after as the trainer has decided to give the him a break.

The son of Celtic Swing has made two fruitful visits to France this summer, finishing third in both the French Derby and the Prix Jean Prat, with a fourth in the St James´s Palace Stakes sandwiched in between.

'We hit him quite hard with several quick races and he has done us proud,' added Channon.

'I am going to give him an easy six weeks and bring him back in the autumn.'
