Chapman returns

Matt Chapman, who polarises opinions as much as marmite, returned to his role at At The Races last night, following speculation of a recent suspension from work for the flamboyant presenter.

ATR bosses officially insisted his absence from the airwaves since November 12 was due to Chapman taking a break but it did come on the day when the presenter issued an apology to jockey Keith Clarke following his ride on Tom Foley's Damien's Oscar, who finished 19th of 23 runners in a Cork maiden hurdle.

Damien's Oscar, a previous point to point winner and dual bumper winner, subsequently recorded a well backed 10 lengths win, when again ridden by Clarke, at Gowran on December 12.

ATR executive producer Rob Dakin said yesterday "Matt is back on ATR and is presenting Get On this Wednesday and Thursday. He will then be working for the rest of the month and although we haven't yet issued the January rota, Matt will be on it. As I have said before, Matt was just taking a break from the channel - it was never going to be permanent."
