Chases called off at Roscommon

There will be no chases at the two-day meeting at Roscommon next Sunday and Monday after an inspection this morning found the steeplechase track unfit for racing.

The Bank Of Ireland Roscommon Handicap Chase on Sunday, June 16th, and the Frank Hannon Memorial Chase on Monday, June 17th, have both been abandoned.

Also the maximum number of runners on the track for the meeting on Sunday has been reduced to 12 for the Flat races and 14 for the National Hunt races.

The Roscommon executive is hopeful that racing will go ahead as planned.

The first race on Sunday is at 3.00pm to allow patrons uninterrupted coverage of the Republic of Ireland`s crucial World Cup clash against Spain which will be shown live on 32 inch TV screens located in the bars and restaurant.

The going is currently heavy and fresh ground will be provided for racing on Monday evening.
