Chattering Classes gets them talking with Group 3 success The Valerie Cooper-owned Chattering Classes lost her maiden tag in some style when winning the Group 3 Staffordstown Stud Stakes for Jessica Harrington and Shane Foley at the Curragh. A 16/1 chance on the back of a fair debut effort at the Curragh in early August and a luckless run at Thurles earlier this month, she came from well off the pace to head Paddy Twomey’s front-running 100/30 chance The Good Wife 50 yards from the line, winning by a length and a half. The Joseph O'Brien-trained 80/1 shot Blonde Over Blue was three and three-parts of a length away in third place, while even money favourite Maire Rua finished tenth of the 11 runners. Kate Harrington said, “We’re delighted with that. Seamie (Heffernan) came in after the race in Thurles and held his hands up and said he should have won. “We knew she was a nice filly. She literally had no race that day and came out of it so so well. “We gave her a breeze on Friday and she was very good. That was excellent. “She did it really well and she’s a lovely filly. We have always thought a nice bit of her. “She was green the first day and we gave her a bit of time after that run. She can go into the winter now with the dream alive. “She’s got no fancy entries and we’ll see how things turn out next spring. “The Salsabil Stakes (at Navan next April) was the plan after the last day so we’ll see.” Additional reporting by Gary Carson
