Ralston Road will travel across the Irish Sea to Chester this weekend before he takes his chance in the Irish Derby at the Curragh next month.

The Pat Shanahan trained son of Dylan Thomas shed his maiden tag on the fifth time of asking at Leopardstown earlier this month, beating Mourani by half a length.

Afterwards Shanahan indicated that the Thistle Bloodstock owned colt would go for the Derby but this afternoon he revealed a trip to Chester is first up.

"He’ll go to Chester on Saturday for a mile and three furlongs handicap, rated 0-85", Shanahan said.

"He came out of his last run very well, he’s hardy that way. The form got a boost with Plinth and Mourani finishing first and second at the weekend.

"He’ll go for the Derby then although I do have a Listed race at Leopardstown in early June (King George V Cup formerly the Nijinsky Stakes) in the back of my mind for him, but it’s unlikely he’ll go there."
