Cheyenne Stars For Crowley

Cheyenne Star got up in the shadow of the post to win a thrilling race for the Castlemartin Stud EBF Garnet Stakes at Naas.

The top-weight weaved her way through the field in the final furlong to nail Thoughtless Moment in the dying strides.

Cheyenne Star (4-1 favourite), trained by Frances Crowley and ridden by Seamus Heffernan, won the Listed prize by a neck.

Baby Blue Eyes was third, with Dimenticata a close fourth in a bunch finish.

British raider In Safe Hands, from Clive Cox's stable, was always prominent and led a furlong out but was run out of it in the last 100 yards.

Crowley said: 'We had great plans for her to run in the Matron Stakes, but she had a problem and couldn't run.

'There's a Listed race over a mile at Dundalk we might go for. I'm also going to have a chat with the owners about the possibility of taking her to Dubai.'

The race was something of a family affair, with the Dermot Weld-trained runner-up being ridden by Crowley's husband, Pat Smullen.
