Chunga Continues York Run La Chunga made it two wins from three starts at York as she bounced back to her best in the Cuisine De France Summer Stakes. The Jeremy Noseda-trained filly won the Albany Stakes at the Royal Ascot meeting last term, as well as finishing second to Flashy Wings in the Lowther Stakes on the Knavesmire.Although La Chunga had failed to figure in two starts this season, she seemed to enjoy a return to Yorkshire as she ran out a game winner of the Group Three event.Darryll Holland took up a watching brief on the 11-4 favourite as Donna Blini set the early pace and that filly was not headed until Paradise Isle looked to deliver a winning challenge around a furlong out. However, Holland brought La Chunga with a sustained run to get on top inside the final furlong and stay on to score by one and a quarter lengths.Donna Blini rallied to get back up and snatch second place, with Paradise Isle a short head away in third.La Chunga's success topped a good week for Noseda and owner Sir Robert Ogden after Sander Camillo's impressive victory in Wednesday's Cherry Hinton Stakes at Newmarket.Ogden's racing manager Barry Simpson said: 'We ran La Chunga in the 1000 Guineas but the (soft) ground was against her and when she ran in the King's Stand Stakes at Royal Ascot, she could not go the pace but ran a good race.'The six furlongs today suited her and back against horses of her own sex she has done it well ? Darryll said he always thought he would pick the leaders up.'Six furlongs seems to be her trip and we have a couple of options later on but I don't know what Sir Robert will want to do now.'Owner John Fretwell is hoping for better things from Medicine Path after the 7-2 chance made an impressive racecourse debut in the Hovis Maiden Stakes. He said: 'We won this race last year with Silent Times but Medicine Path is better.'In fact I would say he is the best we have got this time. We knew back in February that he was nice, though we were a bit worried about the ground here today.'He is class. I don't know what we will do now but we have a couple of races in mind so we will see.'We were expecting to get 16-1 about him but the news must have got out!'Ex-Sir Michael Stoute inmate Gallantry (8-1) completed the first part of a big-race plan when winning the Hearthstead Homes Handicap under Jimmy Quinn.Trainer David Barker missed the win but his mother Pat outlined plans for the length-and-a-quarter winner. She said: 'We wanted to win this so he would get a 3lb penalty for the totesport International at Ascot because that will give him a better chance of getting in.'That takes him to 7st 11lb so we will have to keep our fingers crossed, but it is not the end of the world if he does not get in, there will be other opportunities for him.'(C) PA Sport
