Despite running from 7lb out of the handicap, Clonmeen provided trainer William Murphy with a big win when easily landing the Join Racing TV Now Handicap Chase at Fairyhouse.

Owned and bred by Stephen Campion, the 40/1 chance tracked the leaders into the straight, before hitting the front three out under Simon Torrens.

Keeping on strongly from the penultimate fence, the bi priced outsider went clear to win by four-and-a-half lengths.

“It was a great performance. I’d say it was the blinkers,” said Murphy.

“He seemed to be coming back into form and he absolutely loves it around here. He had a great run here the last day.

“He was very good and the blinkers sharpened up his jumping.

“Simon knows him well, he’s won two on him before and was back on him today.

“I didn’t see it coming to be honest. I was actually planning on going to Down Royal in a week’s time and the owner said he wanted to come here.

“It’s been great.”
