Clonmel and Wexford to hold inspections Following a further 5mm of rain overnight, the ground at Clonmel remains heavy and fit for racing at present, but with more rain forecast the IHRB has announced that there will be an inspection of the course on Thursday morning. There will be an inspection at 7.30am tomorrow morning to determine if the fixture scheduled to take place on Thursday, 4 April can go ahead. Lorcan Wyer, IHRB Clerk of the Course at Clonmel said: “Following a further 5mm of rain overnight, the track at Clonmel is heavy and very testing at the moment but remains fit for racing at present. “The current forecast is for scattered showers today and a heavier band of rain moving in tomorrow afternoon bringing approximately 15mm of rain. “We have had a total of 300mm of rain since 1 January 2024, and with the possibility of further rain prior to racing we will have to further assess the situation tomorrow morning so we will have a 7.30am inspection (Thursday).” The County Tipperary track has been greatly affected by the persistent wet spell of weather this year with the last meeting to take place at the venue being on February 15. Three scheduled meetings since on February 29, March 7 and March 28 have all been cancelled due to waterlogging. Following a further 16mm of rain since entries, the track at Wexford is currently unfit for racing due to parts of the track being waterlogged. There will be an inspection at 7.30am on Friday morning to determine if the fixture scheduled to take place on Friday, 5 April can go ahead. Paul Moloney, IHRB Clerk of the Course at Wexford said: "Unfortunately the weather is relentless at the moment and since entries on Monday we’ve had 16mm of rain at Wexford. “We were heavy on Monday for entries, but following the heavy rain in the last couple of days the track is now waterlogged in places and unfit for racing at present. “We do have a favourable forecast for today as it is to be mainly dry but after that we are looking at it staying unsettled with the possibility of a further 15mm of rain prior to racing. “Due to the current conditions and the forecast, we will hold an inspection on Friday morning at 7.30 to determine if Friday’s fixture can go ahead.”
