Cloonainra justified good support when landing the Ballygarry Estate Hotel & Spa Mares Novice Chase at Listowel.

The John McConnell-trained mare was backed from as big as 15/2 into 10/3 for the two-mile-three contest.

Paddy Hanlon sent her to the front going to the fourth last fence and she asserted with a fine leap two from home.

Her jumped at the last wasn’t as good through as she ploughed through the birch but the daughter of Financial Reward galloped on well in the closing stages to score by two-and-three-quarter lengths from Enjoy The Dream

Hanlon said:- “She was very good and jumped very well for her chasing debut. She’s classy and will probably make a better chaser than she did a hurdler.

“I schooled her last Thursday and a big thanks to John for putting me up.”
