Having shaped with promise when fourth last time, the Henry De Bromhead trained Cocofred came forward from that run to record a first career win in Division l of the Shanagher Hearing Maiden Hurdle at Roscommon.

With Darragh O'Keeffe on board for the first time, the five-year-old was sent to post a 6/1 chance to shed his maiden tag.

Prominent from the outset, the gelding threw down a strong challenge to front running Astelia at the penultimate flight, before coming through to lead at the last.

Asserting on the run-in, Cocofred kept on well to post a four-length victory.

Robbie Power said:- “We’re delighted with that. He had a nice run in a bumper last year and he ran well enough in Tramore but we were a little bit disappointed.

“He’s come on plenty for that. That good ground is key to him and Darragh said he really appreciated it.

“I’m delighted for Jamie Allday. He was over in Limerick on Thursday but unfortunately couldn’t be here this evening.

“Darragh said he was long over the last three hurdles, he has plenty of scope to him. He will go jumping fences in time but we’ll tip away over hurdles for this summer.”
