Composing steps forward from debut to land maiden Epsom Derby winning jockey Wayne Lordan made all on the once-raced Composing to take the O'Driscolls Irish Whiskey Irish EBF Fillies Maiden at the Curragh. Fifth on her introduction here over 6f last month, the 3/1 chance overturned that form with second placed Cape Sounion. Bred to appreciate the extra furlong she encountered this evening, Lordan sent the daughter of Wootton Bassett straight to the lead from stalls. Gavin Ryan was always close up on the 2/1f Cape Sounion, chasing the leader before throwing down his challenge over a furlong out. However, despite getting to within a neck of Composing over 150 yards out, Cape Sounion could find no more close home, eventually losing out by three-quarters-of-a-length. “I’m delighted with her, she came forward lovely from her last run,” said O’Brien. “The two fillies worked together the last day. Ryan’s filly followed her up and looked to be going better than her but, for whatever reason, Ryan’s filly is just not getting it together. “Ryan said all she wanted to do was go right. She’s obviously just very green and babyish mentally so we’ll give her more time. “Wayne’s filly is lovely and straightforward and he gave her a lovely ride. “She’s a filly that will get further, she’s uncomplicated. Ryan was very impressed with her when he came in, watching Wayne’s filly, and Wayne was very happy with her too. “Wayne said she went to the line with her ears pricked and she probably has the makings of a lovely filly.” When asked if something like the Debutante Stakes could be next he added:- “I’d say. She’s out of an Australia mare so she’s going to stay as well.” Additional reporting by Gary Carson.
