Confidential Lady Heads Irish 1,000 Guineas Field

The Sir Mark Prescott trained Confidential Lady, second in the English 1,000 Guineas four weeks ago, bids to go one better in the Boylesports Irish 1,000 Guineas at the Curragh on Sunday.

In a quality field, Richard Hannon's Nasheej, who was third at Newmarket, also renews rivalry while a strong overseas challenge is completed by Barry Hills' Short Dance, the mount of Richard Hughes and an easy winner at York last week, and Stan Moore's Dont Dili Dali.

Trainer Aidan O'Brien has won the race on three occasions in the past and he launches a determined challenge with five representatives. Stable jockey Kieren Fallon has chosen to ride Race For The Stars who will be bidding to improve on her eighth in the English equivalent earlier this month while stable companion, Queen Cleopatra, is the mount of Seamie Heffernan who was successful on Imagine in the 2001 renewal. Trainer Kevin Prendergast saddled Pidget to win in 1972 and Artique Royale nine years later and he will run both Ugo Fire and Talwin while Dermot Weld, twice successful with Princes Polly in 1982 and Trusted Partner in 1988, is represented by Nightime.

On a cracking eight race card, the first race is off at 2pm and while the Tattersalls Gold Cup has only attracted three runners, all eyes will be on the Andre Fabre trained Hurricane Run. Winner of the Budweiser Irish Derby and the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe at Longhcamp in 2005, Hurricane Run looks set for another successful campaign and will again be ridden by regular partner, Kieren Fallon. He faces Jim Bolger's Alexander Goldrun on Sunday and this four time Group One winner is sure to give him a good test on what is his seasonal debut.

The Airlie Stud Gallinule Stakes has attracted five runners and here the John Oxx trained King In Waiting takes centre stage. An impressive winner of his only start to date, King In Waiting could hopefully develop into a contender for the Budweiser Irish Derby in early July if putting up a good performance in Sunday's race. Aidan O'Brien runs two useful sorts in Puerto Rico and Talenti while the Jim Bolger trained Rhythm'n Roots was a good winner of the Ballysax Stakes at Leopardstown last month and is sure to make his presence felt.
