Cork optimistic of racing on Saturday Prospects of racing at Cork this Saturday have greatly improved as the track continues to dry out following significant rain last weekend. Up to three inches of rain fell in southern areas resulting in Tramore having to cancel fixtures on Sunday and Monday, while Tipperary’s card on Tuesday was also ruled out due to waterlogging. However conditions have improved over the past few days, and the Mallow venue looks set to go ahead on Saturday with the Listed Heritage Stakes the highlight. Cork’s Sales and Marketing Manager Mary Kelly said, “The round track is raceable, and the sprint track is slightly waterlogged in places. “The last two days here have been fabulous which has really helped, and the situation is improving all the time. “The weather last weekend was just horrific. We’ve had a very wet winter here and lost a number of meetings but at the moment I would say we are all systems go for racing on Saturday. “Val O’Connell (Clerk of the Course) will walk the track tomorrow, and we’ll have an updated going report then. The weather forecast is reasonably encouraging.”
