Court in hearing over jockeys' death

In Britain, pre-trial legal argument is taking place at Leeds Crown Court in the case of a man charged in connection with starting a fire in which promising Irish jockey, 18-year-old Jamie Kyne from Galway, was killed.

The accused, 37-year-old Peter William Brown with an address at Lyndale Caravan Park in Knottingley, West Yorkshire, is charged with murder.

Mr Kyne and another apprentice jockey, 19-year-old Jan Wilson from Forfar in Scotland, were in Buckrose Court, a block of flats in Norton in Yorkshire, when fire spread through it in the early hours of 5 September last year.

Jamie Kyne had ridden 29 winners in 2009 prior to his death, was third in the apprentice championship and was widely tipped to have a successful professional career
