Craigavon-based trainer Ross Crawford and jockey Sam Ewing were fitting northern winners of Downpatrick’s Remembering ‘Caughoo’ Handicap Chase today, scoring with the Nigel O'Hare-owned Dinoland (11/2).

Raced either in first or second-place throughout, Dinoland left no hiding places from the halfway point of today’s race and held on well to score by 8.5 lengths from My Good Pal .

Rookier handler Crawford, whose brother Stuart Crawford is a prominent trainer based at Larne, was registering a second career success and reported “this place can be horses-for-courses and Dinoland just loved that.

“To be fair, the owners were telling me that he ran well here in the past so were keen to come back. They would have liked to have been here but, unfortunately as it turned out, some of the boys are in Chester with another runner and some of them are down in Ballinrobe with another - it is all a bit spread out, but they’ll enjoy this!

"The horse has ability and it has just been finding his happy place. That's his third run for us so hopefully we are finding the buttons with him."

Today’s race is named in honour of racehorse ‘Caughoo’, trained by Herbert McDowell in Dublin, who landed two Ulster Nationals at today’s course before winning the 57-runner 1947 Aintree Grand National at 100-1. Having won by 20 lengths in heavy fog and mud, the victory was later marred by allegations that the horse hid in the mist to skip half the course, which was later disproven.
