Crockett makes it three from three Davy Crockett maintained his unbeaten record with a cosy victory in the Seamus Mulvaney Bookmaker Novice Hurdle at Listowel this afternoon. The Camelot gelding, a son of superstar mare Annie Power, came into today’s two-mile contest with a bumper and maiden hurdle already on his CV. Paul Townend tracked the leaders on the 1/2 shot, who took a keen hold in behind stablemate La Note Verte. He squeezed through on the inner to challenge over the second last and the JP McManus-owned gelding soon hit the front. Despite an untidy leap at the last flight the Willie Mullins-trained four-year-old didn’t need to engage top gear to go on and record a four-length win over Arch Empire. Mullins said:- “He jumped so slick for a horse having just his second run over hurdles. He missed the last alright, but he was so slick at some of the other hurdles and is obviously taking after his mother.   “He looks sharp, and I can see him improving for the rest of the season and hopefully he can go up in grade.   “Tipperary will probably come a bit soon for him and we could look at the Royal Bond.   “La Note Verte ran well and finished third. The ground might be a bit soft for her.” Paddy Power left the winner unchanged as 12/1 joint-favourite for next March’s Supreme Novices’ Hurdle at Cheltenham. (Quotes by Alan Magee)
