Cut A Dash does just that in Rockingham Stakes at York Cut A Dash came from last to first to strike a blow in the Sky Bet Rockingham Stakes at York. The Richard Hannon-trained Starspangledbanner colt, who debuted on the Knavesmire in May before finishing fourth in the Coventry Stakes at Royal Ascot, was slowly away from a wide draw and settled in at the rear of the field by Sean Levey. Levey pulled his mount wide as they approached the final furlong and the 4-1 favourite gradually reeled in the field charging down the centre of the course, getting up to land the Listed event by a length from Agamemnon. Leavy said: “It was a nice performance from stall 11. I told Richard I was going to go forward on him today, but we ended up right at the back! He left the gate a little bit sluggish and I didn’t really want to kick him in the belly from that wide draw. “There’s no doubt he’s a good horse and he’s just been a little frustrating. What he’s shown at home he hasn’t really found at the track. It’s nice to see him show he is a good horse and he’s one to look forward to.” Grey Cuban defied odds of 28-1 as he made all to record back-to-back wins in the Sky Bet For The Fans Handicap. He led by two lengths as they approached the final furlong and a half as Lord Melbourne started to eat into his lead, but the Hugo Palmer-trained gelding found more on the urging of David Probert to hold off the pursuers by half a length. Probert said: “It was gutsy from him, wasn’t it? Coming into this race off 107 and carrying top-weight in conditions that were very testing. He’s relished every yard. He’s got a high cruising speed and it was so gutsy. “I thought he might have been vulnerable, especially running into a strong headwind. It’s definitely a highlight performance from him.” He added: “I’m delighted for the owners and Hugo. He’s a horse that’s quite tough and he’s been competitive in Listed company, so he was entitled to run a big race and I thought that was a top performance from him today.”
